Gratitude Journals

Last week, I mentioned my gratitude journal and said I would write more later. It is later. I first heard of this watching Oprah Winfrey speaking with author, Sarah Ban Breathnach. In her book, Something More: Excavating Your Authentic Self, she spoke of keeping a gratitude journal and how it helped her life. (Update: This is the wrong book title. The correct one is: Simple Abundance: A Daybook of Comfort and Joy.)

What is a gratitude journal?

It is a place to write down three, or more, things that you are grateful for each day. I will not kid you, sometimes it can be hard. I have had days where I could think of one - my dog. So, I had to dig deep into my day to come up with two more.

What does a gratitude journal look like?

The good news is that it is easy to find one - it is anything you would like to use. I am currently using a notebook of all natural products brought to me as a souvenir of Costa Rica.

I have also used a plain notebook, a weekly planner, a diary, and a journal. My favorite, so far, is a Winnie-the-Pooh planner.

It can also be kept online or in a word processing program.

Why is keeping a gratitude journal important?

When I first started keeping a gratitude journal, I was at a low point. It seemed like everything was going wrong. Taking those few minutes a day helped me to see that my life was actually quite good. My happiness level increased exponentially.

Tonight, I will be grateful for the readers of my blog.
